Day +20

It was around 4 pm when the doctor popped in our room to tell us that Timothy no longer has CGD.  It was the most amazing news… my heart leapt and couldn’t stop smiling.  No more CGD… the dreaded disease Timothy was plagued with for 2 years.  We are so thankful to God and to all our prayer supporters.  God willed it and it happened.  For now, we praise Him for His healing and mercy to our family.  Also, we will be discharged tomorrow!  After one month (Jan. 29th to Feb. 29th) in the hospital, Timothy will go home.  It’s a blessing he is so young.  He actually hasn’t asked to go outside the unit since he has been hospitalized.  He’s idea of going out is to roam the hallway and to go to the playroom.  And he’s always happy to come back to his room.  I don’t even think he knows where the doors are to go out of the unit.  It is remarkable to be able to go home after 4 1/2 weeks.

Please continue to pray for Timothy.  Though we have reached a big milestone in his BMT journey, he is still not out of the woods.  The first 100 days post transplant are crucial.  Now that he is cured, our battle is more of an engraftment issue.  The new marrow needs to find Timothy’s body as its new home and not cause any havoc in his system.  As I have mentioned before, Timothy will be closely monitored for GVHD (Graft Vs. Host Disease) and he will be on immunosuppressant meds to keep his own immune system at bay.  But this also causes his body to be more susceptible for infections.  His current immune system is like that of a newborn baby.  It’s starting from the beginning.  And just like a newborn, we need to be very careful while his system matures.  Thanks, everyone!
